Awning Windows, Defined Spaces, and the Power of Simple Changes
Every home has a story to tell, and sometimes, the story isn’t quite right. Maybe the front door feels like an afterthought. Or the entry feels chaotic—more of a pass-through than a welcome. But with a few intentional changes, the heart of the home can shine through, transforming not just the space but how it feels to live there.
On our Front Porch & Entry Makeover project the results are a testament to how thoughtful design can bring out the best in a home.
A Front Door with Purpose
Picture this: A house with not one but two front doors, placed on opposite sides of the porch. Where are visitors supposed to go? It’s confusing. Add to that a set of two small gables that clutter the roofline rather than adding charm, and the result is a disjointed exterior that doesn’t live up to its potential.
Inside, the story wasn’t much better. The absence of a defined entry left the space feeling incomplete, like the home was missing its introduction.
Our first step was to simplify. The two gables? Gone. This small change instantly cleaned up the porch roof, creating a clean and cohesive appearance. Then, we removed the two competing doors and relocated the front door to a central, welcoming location. By shifting the stairs to align with the new entry, the home now guides you in naturally, as if it’s saying, “Welcome. You belong here.”
A Defined Entry: More Than Just a Space
Inside, we created an Entry/Mudroom that strikes the perfect balance between function and beauty. A partial-height wall gives the space definition, separating it from the Living and Dining rooms without closing it off completely.
This little touch goes a long way. Now, the entry is a place where boots come off, coats find their hook, and guests pause to take in the warmth of the home. It’s more than just a functional addition—it’s an invitation to settle in and stay a while.
Awning Windows: Light with a Purpose
The finishing touch? Two awning windows in the entry, perfectly placed to bring in natural light without sacrificing privacy. They frame the view, letting the outdoors in just enough to create a connection between inside and out. On sunny mornings or rainy afternoons, these windows quietly enhance the mood of the space, making it feel alive and connected to the world around it.
A Transformation in the Details
It’s easy to underestimate the power of small changes, but this project proves that even subtle adjustments can completely change the story of a home. By focusing on simplicity and purpose, we took a confusing, disjointed entry and turned it into a warm, inviting space that sets the tone for the rest of the house.
Every family deserves a home that feels just right—a place where the story flows naturally, from the first step through the door to every moment spent inside.
What’s Your Home’s Story?
Homes are more than walls and roofs. They’re where your story unfolds. Whether it’s a reimagined entry or an entirely new space, every project starts with your family and how you live.
If your home isn’t telling the story you want, we can help. Let’s work together to create a place that welcomes, comforts, and inspires—one thoughtful detail at a time.
