The homeowners, who live next door, purchased their Grandparents' 1967 brick home with just over 2000sf to keep in the family as their forever home for Mom. This meant dealing with updating the plan for a more open concept, adding a Bedroom for a live-in assistant, and making fully accessible design throughout while maintaining the key facets of Grandma's House intact.
The significant changes were to the Kitchen and the new Owners' Bedroom Suite. In the kitchen we removed some interior walls which and allowed for a small center countertop island that is wheelchair-friendly.The expanded footprint provided more countertop space as well as a wider entry from the Garage. This new open space also maintained an exit to the covered patio, and the large corner picture windows viewing the massive yard - Grandma's most favorite sitting spot in the house. A 3/4 Bath and a new larger Laundry with a massive Pantry beyond are also easily accessed from this space. Three small Bedrooms were combined to create a new Owners' Bedroom Suite, including a large walk-in Closet with stacked Laundry machines, as well as a massive accessible Bath. The 15' of vanity, plus linen cabinets flank one side of the room, with an accessible toilet and fully open roll-in shower (with heated tile and heatlamps in the ceiling) are on the other. The home's feature corner windows were maintained, with updates to glass block,as Grandma loved.
The original sunken Living room floor was filled in and level out, and was partially converted into a new living quarters with Bath. The new owners are now ready for years of living in this family home, ready for aging-in-place.
