The homeowner needed a remodel for an aging parent to move in and live independently. The layout of the 1956 brick ranch with a newly remodeled kitchen in the middle didn't allow for easy combination of the new spaces into a single addition, so we designed two separate additions, with a common patio courtyard in the middle. A light-filled Family room with Office, Mudroom and Pantry addition were added on the left side of the house off the existing Kitchen and Dining Room, and a new Owners Bedroom with full en suite and Laundry Room were added on the right side of the house off the existing Bedroom hall. A new covered Front Porch was added as well as a new focal point. Craftsman style trim and interior detailing was key throughout the entire home, both interior and exterior. Built-in seating bookcases, and unique features were added - including a laundry pass-through from the new en suite Bath to the new Laundry room. Basement space was added below the Family Room addition (existing home on crawlspace only), for additional storage and tornado safety room.
